Dr. Hans Binder, Ph.D., is a Biophysicist by training and has many years of research experience, but most of all a Bioinformatician by passion and professional background. He obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Simulations and a Habilitation degree in soft matter physics from Leipzig University. His academic path has followed a route through Germany, the USA, Australia, and Sweden. Eventually, he became the Founding Managing Director of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Bioinformatics of Leipzig University, just as the human genome was deciphered in 2002. Dr. Binder is also a member of the International Cancer Genome Consortium and an author of over 200 scientific papers.
For ten years Dr. Binder has promoted scientific cooperation with Armenia in numerous joint projects and Armenian-German exchange programs (20 joint publications). Dr. Binder’s cooperation with ABI has a firm, concrete goal – developing the field of bioinformatics in Armenia and bringing it to international standards.
Dr. Binder’s research interests are revolving around sequencing technologies and machine learning in the context of the genome and personalized medicine, as well as mechanisms of genomic regulation of cell functions at the gene level (genetic defects, epigenetic mechanisms, and transcriptional activation and deactivation of the genes).
