Winter School “Wine Industry and Global Climate Change Challenges"

From October 2nd to 6th, the ABI Vine Bioinformatics team, led by Dr. Hans Binder, participated in the ProGriCC Winter School on “Wine Industry and Global Climate Change Challenges” at Telavi State University in Georgia. On the third day, Dr. Binder discussed “Vine Bioinformatics for the Caucasus,” Emma Hovhannisyan presented “Genetic Variability and Disease Resistance of Grapevine from Armenia,” Tomas Konecny talked about “Cold Acclimation in Vitis vinifera,” and Armine Asatryan shared findings on “Drought Response Techniques in Vitis vinifera.”

The event, attended by students and professors, covered diverse topics related to winemaking, including historical aspects, sensory descriptors, and the impact of climate change on grape quality. The agenda also included winery tours, a city exploration, and presentations covering different aspects of grape agriculture. Overall, the Winter School provided a platform for discussions and insights into the challenges and opportunities facing the wine industry amid global climate change.
